Leland Little Auction & Estate Sales, Ltd. Scholarship in Fine & Decorative Arts $1,500.00:
Amelia Green, Monrovia, CA
In the three years I have been working for a personal property appraisal office specializing in Antiques and Residential Contents, I have found that my background as a UCLA History graduate sparked an interest in the history of decorative art styles. Due to this interest, I was encouraged to take a series of appraisal courses offered at UC Irvine, and would like to expand my knowledge of the decorative arts. I greatly appreciate the opportunity given to me by Leland Little Auction and Estate Sales and the Foundation for Appraisal Education. This scholarship will enable me to take the Antiques and Residential Contents course offered by ISA this October, which will improve my connoisseurship and be invaluable to my current employment as an appraiser.
Experienced Appraiser $1,000.00 each:
-
Laura Nelson, Tulsa, OK
I am grateful to the Foundation for Appraisal Education for this generous scholarship. I very much look forward to attending the International Society of Appraisers (ISA) Appraisal of Fine Art course in October.
I have maintained a lifelong interest in antiques and fine art, pursuing formal and informal education in art history and visual arts. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loyola University and after a 20-year career in the marketing and advertising industry, became a dealer of fine and decorative arts.
Appraising became a central focus of my business, Nelson-Aaron, LLC. I successfully completed the ISA Core Course in Appraisal Studies, the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), and most recently the Antiques & Residential Contents course (October 2011). With these, I achieved the International Society of Appraisers (ISA AM) Accredited Member designation.
Because of my interest in fine art, I am pursuing further education in this area of study. The ISA Appraisal of Fine Art course will help me continue to build on the foundation set through my endeavors to date. With a more diverse educational background, it is my goal to better serve my clients and community.

Suzy McGrane-Hop, Cedar Rapids, IA
I am honored to be the recipient of the Experience Appraiser Scholarship. I am a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property specializing in Midwest Regionalism and WPA artists. I have worked in art galleries for the past 16 years, since first interning at a gallery as an art student at Coe College. I began my appraisal studies in 2007 while working at a fine art gallery and then became a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property with ISA. I recently opened my own appraisal and fine art consulting business last year. This scholarship offers me the opportunity to continue with my appraisal education and networking by attending Assets 2013. Thank you Foundation of Appraisal Educati on for offering this generous award.

Danielle McAllister, Ontario, Canada
I am a photo archives and heritage preservation professional who is currently based in Ottawa, ON, Canada. I hold a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Guelph (Guelph, ON, Canada) where I specialized in photography, printmaking and sculpture. My love of photography and my interest in heritage preservation led me to obtain my M.A. in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management from Ryerson University (Toronto, ON, Canada). On a professional level I have been involved with a variety of collecting institutions, such as libraries, museums and non-profit organizations; however I am truly passionate about photographic collections and archival institutions. After working with appraisers on a professional level, I realized the important role they play in preserving our history, heritage and culture. It is a thrill and an honour to have been selected as the recipient of the New Appraiser Scholarship. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to enroll in the Core Course in Appraisal Studies offered through the International Society of Appraisers. I hope to use this education as an extension of my other professional skills in research, collections development and preventive conservation, to start a consulting business and potentially an art gallery.
Kamille Parkinson, Ontario, Canada
I am very pleased to have been awarded the New Appraiser scholarship from the Foundation for Appraisal Education, and intend to use the award to take the Appraisal of Fine Art course offered by the ISA this coming autumn. Though I am an art historian and archivist by training, taking this course will help me to understand the nuances of fine art with respect to appraisals, supplementing and complementing my knowledge of fine art from an art historical perspective. I have been operating my business for a little over two years, but only added fine art appraisal to the services I offer early in 2012 by successfully completing the ISA Core Course in Appraisal Studies (through distance ed.) and the 15-hour USPAP (2012-2013) course.
I earned my PhD in Art History from Queen’s University in 2005, specializing in 19th century British and Canadian watercolour landscape painting. I taught art history at the Bader International Study Centre (operated by Queen’s University) at Herstmonceaux Castle in southern England, and most recently taught at the State University of New York (SUNY), Potsdam. Prior to earning my doctorate I worked as an archivist at both Queen’s University and at Library and Archives Canada.
Additional General Scholarships $450.00 and $395.00
Carol Wamble, Hermitage, TN
I was so happy to learn I had been selected to receive this special scholarship for the CAPP Requalification course offered in October of 2012. I am looking forward to taking this required ISA course to continue practicing among the best-educated professional appraisers in the country.
I thought I was an appraiser in 1992 until I met Sally Boose, ISA AM in 1995. Sally took me under her wing and taught me what appraising was really all about. I became an ISA accredited member in 1996, and what I have gained from these 17 years as an ISA member has made all the difference in the world to me, professionally and personally. From attending ISA conferences and on-site classes over the years, I have developed a lifetime of networking with professional appraisers and friends from California to Florida to Canada. Over the past few years I have been able to help a few new appraisers in Tennessee and hope to give back a little of what so many ISA appraisers have given me.
I am very grateful to The Foundation for Appraisal Education for awarding me this scholarship.
Larra Nebel, Bronx, NY
I received my Bachelor's of Fine Art with a studio emphasis in Photography and my K-12 teaching credentials at the University of Texas at Austin in 1997. I moved to New York to work in the fine art photography field and am so thrilled to have received a general scholarship from the Foundation for Appraisal Education to progress my appraisal studies at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies in the appraisal of photographic prints. New to the field of appraising, I am working as an assistant to a photography appraiser in New York and the scholarship will allow me to continue to pursue the coursework required for NYU's certificate program, so that my training in traditional photography continues to be applicable to the art field.
Judy Martin Scholarship for the 2012 Quinn Seminar $375.00
Amanda Williams, Fairfax Station, VA
I am honored to be granted the Judy Martin Scholarship to attend the Quinn Seminar next month. After raising two children I am combining my education in history with my interest in art and artifacts and beginning my education in the appraisal profession. I have a bachelor’s degree in history from Colgate University where I focused on British History, spending half of my senior year in London, followed by graduate study in U.S. and Japanese History. I enjoy the research and stories behind pieces for their form, function, and historical significance. I am very grateful to the Foundation for Appraisal Education for helping me along this path.

Lauren Bradley
I am a graduate of American University, where I received my B.A. in Art History. After receiving my degree, I continued to further my education by enrolling in courses at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. Last year I enrolled in the Core Courses in Appraisal Studies through the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). I successfully completed the course and the qualifying exam. I also completed the 15 hour course and examination on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
In addition to pursuing continuing education, I have worked in the art field for nearly ten years. Since graduating from American I have held jobs with a private art dealer and appraiser, large personal property appraisal firms, an internationally competitive auction house, and am currently managing a nationally recognized gallery, which specializes in the sale of American Impressionist artwork. As a new appraiser I hope to further my appraisal education through ISA, with the intent of earning my Accredited Member status and eventually my Certified Member status. This scholarship will enable me to pursue these goals.
